The Junior Development Program


Designed and directed by Head Tennis Pro Geoff LoConte.  Geoff is both USPTA  & USPTR-certified and has extensive experience in running youth development programs throughout the Northeast. Geoff’s tennis teaching and child-motivation skills are enhanced by an M.A. in elementary education.

Level 1 - Tennis Tots (Ages 4-6)

Based on the USPTA  Little Tennis program.
Graduated equipment; 45-minute sessions.

This introductory program for tots combines fun, lessons and activities to foster an acquaintancewith the court and balls and help develop basic hand-eye coordination.  Provides a foundation for enjoyment of the game of tennis as your child grows in physical stature, agility and attention span.

Six to ten players per court. 1 or 2  lessons per week recommended.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate with their children and assist the teaching pro.

Level 2 - Beginners (Age 7 & up)

1-hour sessions for beginners and advanced beginners.

These juniors are either just starting to play tennis or are just slightly more experienced. The focus is on teaching basic concepts of play, stroke production, serving, volleying, and scoring in a game situation using both a modified and a regulation tennis court.

4 to 6 players per court; 1 or 2 sessions per week recommended.

Private & semi-private lessons for juniors are an additional option for families that wish to fast-track their child’s tennis development.


Level 3 - Intermediate-Advanced  (Age 7 &  up)

1.5-hour intensive sessions.

For the lower intermediate to advanced junior.  Minimum requirement: ability to sustain a slow-paced rally of several shots with a player of comparable ability.  Can keep score unassisted,  call own lines, serve overhand from baseline and understand the basic rules of the game. Program focuses on continuing the development of basic skills, grooving strokes, developing consistency and establishing a game plan for singles and doubles.

Strategy and the application of spin, speed, height, depth and placement in singles and doubles will be emphasized.

Four to six players per court; 1 or 2  sessions per week recommended.


High School Program (Age 13 and up)  

1.5-hour intensive sessions.

This program is for the junior player looking to make his or her high school team. Players focus on spin, pace, depth, height and direction of their shots to gain advantage during match play.

Other skills and tactics emphasized in the program are developing consistency and establishing a game plan for singles and doubles... along with attention to the mental/emotional aspects of the game.

1 or 2 sessions per week recommended.
